James River Boating

A family in our ward was nice enough to know that we loved boating and invite us to go out with them on their beautiful boat on the James River. Kevin and I are mostly used to boating in the desert with rocks everywhere. This was so different. First it was a river, which was cool, but weird because this river is actually tidal like the ocean because we are close to the ocean. Also the water seemed to be more calm and absorb the boat chop more because there were trees and shrubs on the side of the river and not rocks for the waves to just bounce against. We were also amazed that more people that live in Richmond don't do this because it was so much fun.

The scenery was beautiful and the place we launched out of was very close to our house. (Kevin and I were thinking the whole day--we really need a boat- even a piece of junk boat, even a canoe...lol, something to go out and enjoy the beauty of the river once in a while). Anyways we were able to show everyone we went with how to wake surf- it was a little different cuz we used a real surfboard, but it worked out great and now they know how to do it and are excited to try it more.

The only negative thing about the James River, very muddy. Combine that with the tide going out and you may have problem. So we were slowly coming into a cove where people beach their boats and there is a narrow opening to this cove. Basically we got mud in one of the intakes and when we tried to leave the engine starting smoking and we had to get towed back to the dock. It turned out fine, but that river is very muddy! This is the spot where everyone comes to beach their boats, eat and hang out. There are a bunch of barges in this cove that carry out gravel from a big gravel pit on the other side.

So I decided this could be my future house!
