In May we had fun celebrating Kevin's 30th Birthday and having a few friends visit. For Kevin's birthday we had lunch and cake at the office and then went out to dinner. I got Kevin a tractor cake and thought it was funny that they tractor slipped and made some tracks across his name. Our friends Matt and Debbie and their kids. We went to the Big Stone Gap music festival and to Natural Tunnel State Park. We also had a water day and did a slip and slide. Then a week or so later Donna and Bobby came to visit and sold us us their tractor. Our intention was to go to Dollywood and we drove down there, but it was just too wet and rainy. We did some shopping and other things and had a good time.
We were lucky enough to make two trips out to California this year. One in June and one in July. The first trip was really a business trip for Kevin, but we tagged along. I stayed in the nice hotel in Carlsbad with him and the boys stayed with my parents. Kevin was on a trip with the Zimmer Institue and was busy most of the days. He said that he really enjoyed the classes and had a great time and learned a lot. At night we both were able to attend some very yummy and nice dinners around San Diego County. We had lobster and fish and many other delicious foods and desserts. I had a fun time meeting some of Kevin's colleagues.
The boys had a blast with Grandma and Grandpa and we also were able to make some time to see Mema and Jeff, Amy and the kids. We got there on a Wednesday morning and were able to go to lunch with Cece and Grandma in San Diego so they could give us their car. We still couldn't check into our hotel so we took the boys down to the beach. Both the boys were pretty apprehensive at first and it was a bit chilly, but they started to like it, especially Wyatt. Jack took a bit longer, he didn't like the sand on his feet and he definitely did not like the cold water! Jack and I sat on the beach and watched Wyatt and Dad. We went back and got the boys settled at gma and gpa's house and then headed to dinner/hotel. The next morning Kevin headed to his conference pretty early and I was ALONE (rare moment these days). So I watched TV and layed in bed and ordered room service, it was awesome! Then my mom brought the boys over and we went to Legoland. We had both never been there so it was interesting figuring the place out. The boys really liked it, but I think it took Wyatt a while to understand that everything was made of tiny Legos. We had a lot of fun, but Jack couldn't ride on a lot of the rides for some reason, but then the second day we went we found a better area that Jack could play at. There was an area with a little train and a play place with cars and slides. Jack loves anything car related so he got in them and pretended to drive.They had some pretty cool structures and cities made of Legos. I liked to see the DC and NYC legos. They also had some really cute rides. It was definitely worth going and would be even more fun if the boys were a little bit older. The funniest ride was the little bumper cars; you were supposed to be three, but I snuck Wyatt on, but I probably shouldn't have. He kept turning the wheel and getting stuck near the wall and blocking the other cars or running into other cars. It was pretty funny, they probably figured out that he wasn't really three!! Wyatt's favorite part was the huge jungle gym they had. He went by himself and could climb up ropes and go up to the top and then find different slides to slide down. Every so often he would come and find us or slide down the slide near us and say hi. It was cute that he was being so independent. We also were able to go into the auarium. The boys love fish and stuff so they enjoyed that part of it too. On Friday Cece, Kat and Josh met us at Swami's for breakfast and then we went and took some pictures by the beach. It was fun to see them and hang out for a bit. Jack really likes Josh and Wyatt loves his aunt Kat.
On Saturday Kevin was done with his conference so he got to hang out and we planned a beach day with Jeff & Amy and the kids and Mema. We had some time before everyone was ready for the beach so we took the boys bowling in Oceanside. Jack sat on the seats for the first little while and ate some snacks and watched, but Wyatt is very serious about his bowling. Then if was off to the beach- We all had a really fun time and Wyatt and Jack loved playing with their cousins. It was a bit chilly, but we played a lot in the sand and just dunked our feet in the water. Jack again didn't really like the water at all, but he did play with a bucket of water and dumped it on himself. Kevin was able to get Wyatt out into the water a little bit and they had fun. Then we went back home and got cleaned up and then back over to Jeff's for dinner and smores. Wyatt loved trying to be a big boy with his cousins. Jack played on their slide and all the kids jumped on the trampoline for a bit. We were so glad that Mema could fly out to California the same time we were there so we could see her. The boys miss her so much and love seeing her. Too bad she had to get back to Utah on Sunday.
Kevin had to leave on Sunday, but we were staying until Thursday with grandma and grandpa. On Sunday we dropped Kevin off at the airport and then the boys got to stay with Cece while we went to a party with the Ramirez family and all their family that we know and love. It was nice to see a bunch of our old family friends. The boys had fun with Cece even though they fell asleep on the way to McDonald's, lol.
On one of the mornings that my mom was working I took the boys and we walked down the street to 7-11 to get slur-pees. We live super close to it and it is a safe walk so it was awesome. We used to always do this as kids and it brought back good memories. It's horrible we don't have a 7-11 nearby where we live in VA, slur-pees are the best. My mom has passes to the Wild Animal Park (zoo type place) right in Escondido, the boys have been there a couple of times, but love it every time, and we got to take another visit this trip. Toward the end of the trip we also got to go out to dinner with grandpa for an early Father's Day dinner. He was doing work out of town for some of the time we were there so it was nice to see him and go out before we left.
Wow! We had such a fun filled week just hanging out, going to parks and seeing all of our family and friends. My mom had a bunch of our family friends over one night so we could see everyone. It is always so nice to see them all! They are all like family because they helped to raise my sister and I and now they have kids in high school. Lori and Jeff Berry also came over which was a highlight. She is my best friend from high school, Jennifer's mom. It was so good to see her and catch up and reminisce. Can't wait to see everyone again!! We only had a couple weeks until we were supposed to fly out again for Lake Powell!
