Visits! (Part 1)

We have been able to give and get visits from family and friends and we have even more coming up in the next two months. The first one was to Washington DC to see Kevin's brother's family. We went over President's Weekend because Kurt and Kevin had Monday off and we thought it would be just in time before their new baby was born. We left on Friday around one in the afternoon. It was good weather most of the way until the last 2 hrs and we hit some bad rain, but we didn't really hit too much traffic. The drive was long, but not too bad, and Wyatt got excited when we got into the city because there were lots of big buildings and tunnels to go through. We got to their apartment around 8 and all the kids were wired so we hung out and had some Cafe Rio and then finally got to bed. In the morning Kevin and I were able to go to the temple and K&L watched all the kids (our two and their one, plus being very pregnant). I felt sort of bad, but was so glad we were able to go. DC is such a beautiful temple and we hadn't been able to go to the temple since Jill's wedding so it was so nice to go and think about all our blessings from GOD. Luckily Jack and their son W slept for some or most of the time that we were gone so hopefully it wasn't too stressful. I was really worried about Wyatt because he has bad separation anxiety, but they said he did pretty well, just asked for us a few times and cried once or twice (mostly just when he got hurt). We got MORE CAFE RIO that day too for lunch! The kids were playing so good. Especially Wyatt and William. They especially loved to take turns going up and down on the slide and playing with the Lego Duplo Train. (Kevin has a bunch of the good pictures on his phone- I need to get them)

 Then it was time for us to give Laura a break and the rest of us went out to DC. We decided to go to the Natural History Museum and took the Metro (or train as we called it for the kids). The kids had a fun time just getting there and going fast on the train. It was cold and more crowded than I thought, but we still had fun. The dinosaur bones and other ancient animals were pretty neat. I don't think Wyatt knew what to think at first, but then I think he caught on. There was a GIANT whale and elephant in the museum which was a hit. We got to see a lot of the dinosaurs, but didn't stay too long. We went outside and thought about going to another museum, but it was starting to snow and we knew we had a good walk from the metro station to the apartment so we decided to head home. It was snowing on the walk back and Wyatt was trying to catch the snow on his tongue.

The next day Kurt and Laura went to church and we let the boys nap. Then later we went to the Air and Space Museum. We had been there before when we first moved to VA, but it is one of the coolest museums, especially for little boys. There are planes and spaceships hanging from the walls everywhere. It was kind of crowded, but the museum is so spaced out that it wasn't too bad. The boys did really well and enjoyed looking at everything. Wyatt was especially in heaven as we have been talking about astronauts and space lately, and was excited that he got to "drive" a spaceship. They have some really neat things there, and it will be nice when the kids get older to get to read more about the history of some of the planes. We talked about making a trip to DC every year because there is so much to see and do and learn about.

We went back to K&L house (rode the subway again) and they made us delicious pizza for dinner. The boys got to play some more and then after the kids went to bed the adults got to play games for a second night which was a lot of fun. Laura kept saying she was having some little contractions, but they were probably braxton hicks. Then she seemed to be in more and more pain. We all got a little nervous and thought maybe she should time them and then call the doctor. It turns out she was having real contractions, K&L left for the hospital around 10pm and she had the baby by 2am. It was so crazy!! We were glad we were there to watch William while we all slept and then in the morning Kurt came back. We wish we could have stayed longer to help, but we had to get back on Monday. We were going to stop by the hospital to see the baby, but the nurses had to take her to check her out for some things and the timing just didn't work out. Bummer! But we are hoping to maybe maybe meet up again before they have to move. We had such a nice weekend with family and I was so happy to see the boys play so well
